Review: Space Roguelike Adventure is an Approachable Roguelite with Depth, Charm and a Fair Challenge

Space Roguelike Adventure is a very fair game in terms of the items that you are able to retain upon defeat. Unlike other rougelite games that reset a lot of your items, and typically only allow you to have one or two extra items, you can hold on to; this game is very fair in the sense that it allows you to hold on to many of the upgrades that you acquire while playing the game. This helps present a fair challenge, even for those that may be less familiar with the genre. In fact, this game solves a lot of the issues that are considered commonplace in this genre.

In each level of this game, you have to collect the computer disk. The computer disk opens the path that will help open a portal -- find this portal to reach the next level. Further, resuming your progress upon defeat is very fair, thanks in part to the generous checkpoints. Each region consists of approximately 10 levels and a boss battle. However, if you lose, you can start at checkpoints. These checkpoints are very fair. The checkpoints include level 1, level 4, level 7, level 10, and the boss. Therefore, you are rewarded for your progression, without it feeling tedious. Further, the high energy, adrenaline pumping music, sets the tone perfectly for each level that you traverse through.

Another aspect of the game that helps to make it enjoyable is the very intuitive and fair controls; the controls are very easy to learn. One problem with many roguelite games is that the challenge relies too much on difficult and tedious controls that can hamper your enjoyment of the game. For instance, some games may ask you to push the top R button for an attack. This game, unlike other rougelites, does not have that problem.

All these features help make it a great game that is definitely worth checking out!
